Welcome Friends, Smokers and Ex-Smokers alike,
I setup this blog to record and document my struggle to quit smoking. It is here to help and inspire others who also wish to quit smoking.
You can start at day 1 of my journey to quit smoking, or read a summary of my strategy below.
It all started like this; I’d been thinking a lot about quitting cigarettes for some time, my habit had been getting out of hand and my health suffering accordingly. Like many of you reading this I’d tried to quit smoking in the past and somehow always slipped back into it. There had to be a better way, I decided to sit down and create a decent plan to quit smoking for good!
I’ve listed my tools and concepts to give up smoking below but I feel it is most important to note here that you must want to quit smoking and be ready to get started. With the process outlined below it is not hard to give up, It just requires a little organization and a commitment of time. IF you follow the steps I did I am sure you will quit smoking in no time.
These are the set of tools I came up with to help me successfully quit smoking and then stay quit! Hopefully these tools will help you to quit smoking too.
The first thing I did was setup this blog to keep me focused on task of quitting smoking and I would encourage anyone else wanting to quit smoking to do this also. I am happy to organize a free blog for you here at goquitsmoking.com (provided these requests don’t get out of hand!) You can contact me using the contact tab in the top menu.
The second thing I did was grab myself a copy of Allen Carr’s - Easy way to Quit Smoking. A number of my friends had read this book and found great success with it, even claiming they felt no withdrawl symptoms and quit smoking immediately after finishing the book!
The third thing I did was call my local quit line and through them I ordered some heavily subsidized nicotine gum and patches. Of course you could pick up these from your local pharmacy or green grocer.
Finally I made a commitment to give up alcohol for one month and made a resolution to exercise regularly. Alcohol lowers my willpower and I knew I would need to stay completely focused to achieve my goal.
My multi-pronged plan of attack to quit smoking can be summed up by the following 5 tasks and tools I’ve committed to:
- Blogging about it - A diary of progress to keep me focused on quitting.
- Reading Allen Carr’s - Easy way to Quit Smoking.
- Keeping my Nicotine patches and gum on standby to help fight the urge to smoke.
- Giving up alcohol temporarily to mantain focus and strengthen willpower.
- Getting regular exercise.
Now if you want to read all about my journey to quit smoking you can start at the beginning on Day 1 or, if you want a free quit smoking blog to help you stay focused then contact me here, or using the link at the top of this page, and get started quitting smoking today!
Kind regards
Lachlan
